Redesigning the saying: People don’t know what they want until you show it to them?

Published by on december 20, 2010

There is an arrogance in the old saying: People don’t know what they want until you show it to them. I had lunch with a designer who in an elegant way redesigning the saying into:

People know what they want, they only don´t know how to express it.
Designer Håkan Johansson, ZWEED

It does make sense and sell furniture:

More leaks inspired by whistleblowers as WikiLeaks

Published by on december 15, 2010

Power is in the individual person who has access to any-form of connection to the Internet. I believe that whistleblowers as WikiLeaks is only the beginning of a numbers of leaks that will have different names as OpenLeaks.org.
We will see copy cats of Günter Wallraff, working as employes but later leak information if they feel it is the only way to change the way business is done.

A whistleblower is a person who raises a concern about alleged wrongdoing occurring in an organization or body of people. Usually this person would be from that same organization.

Electrifying advertising at the 100 Watt Awards

Published by on december 13, 2010

I attended “100-wattaren”, the prestigious Swedish award of advertising effect. Apart from me, 799 other advertising and marketing professionals were also attending this years’ awards. The 100 Watt Awards was founded by the Association of Swedish Advertisers in 1990, so this year the award also celebrated its 20th anniversary promoting advertising that really works.

Swedish advertisers have really improved their skills, especially in television and on the Internet. One advertising agency, Forsman & Bodenfors, has over the years been outstanding in winning awards. This year was no exception and they were awarded twice for their campaign “Dear Steve Jobs” for the Swedish National Television. It was a smart idea that made more than 400.000 people demand an iPhone app for SVT.

The effect of all these really good advertisers in Sweden, demonstrated by the high quality level of the nominees for the awards, could be that now can expect to export even more talent abroad. I wrote an article about this for Advertising Age earlier, titled “Why Sweden Is Teeming With Ad Talent:”

Agencies around the globe are waging a war to attract the most talented people. And many of these talented creative people hail from Scandinavia. But why is that? I argue that it is partly because of the school system and the dark winters.

The dark winter evening also offered several talented musical artists lighting up the night, where one of my favorites is the charming soul singer Jasmine Kara (music is also another good example of a successful Swedish export).

WikiLeaks: Is the Russian president reading my blog?

Published by on december 10, 2010

Blogged on the 8th on “Why WikiLeaks will get the Nobel Prize.”
The day after the Guardian has published the headline:

Julian Assange should be awarded Nobel peace prize, suggests Russia.

The article indicates that the idea is from the Russian president (who may have read my blog).

A big thanks to the legendary blogger Jack Yan who did send me the Guardian article and blogged: Wikileaks’ brand of transparency is the enemy of the establishment.

Why WikiLeaks will get the Nobel Prize

Published by on december 8, 2010

No idea to describe what WikiLeaks is or does. Instead I like to explain why I think WikiLeaks will get the Nobel Prize.
I think they could be as important as Napster was for the music industry. First the music industry complained and did not want to change anything. But now, after a long painful lesson, they finally have adapted into new formats as Spotify and other solutions.
To compare the music industry with the USA may sound disrespectful. But for decades USA has got the rest of the world to dance to their hit music and “hit” politics.
WikiLeaks will be the best ever change management tool for the world. Why? Because they will change USA which is the same as changing the world.
In a transparent world economic interest and politics grow together. Big business has become politics. The effect will be that politics and business need to change and therefore I think WikiLeaks will get the Nobel Prize in peace and economic category.

Thom Thavenius success at Unplugged Speeches™

Published by on december 4, 2010

Last Thursday the fifth Unplugged Speeches™ took place. This time it had a different speaker, Thom Thavenius. Thom is an ex-employee in both security- and intelligence services and has a unique knowledge in the field of intelligence analysis and strategy development. The audience was full of heavy-waiters as Google, Spotify, Universal Music, Swedbank, Nordea, TV4 and many others.
The goal of the lecture was to discover and learn how the business world could use and learn from secret service. Thom was excellent in delivering knowledge about how to spot patterns and how to use the knowledge internally (marketing, leadership and change management). Thom talked about how leadership in an organization can navigate by understanding and using the best available information there is to get.

We learned not only how to connect the dots in present time but also to map out how to connect the dots in the future.
